By performing a multi-point inspection, we're determining whether or not a model will qualify as a Lincoln Certified Pre-Owned vehicle. For those who aren’t familiar with this term, our certified vehicles must pass this 200-point multi-point inspection in order to be qualified.

Other qualifiers include:

• The vehicle must have fewer than 60,000 miles on its odometer
• The vehicle will have a full CARFAX® Vehicle History Report™
• The vehicle can be no older than 6 model years

When you shop for these certified vehicles, you as a driver are offered tons of additional perks, like limited warranty coverage and complementary 24-hour roadside assistance.

What We Cover in Our Multi-Point Inspection

The purpose of an inspection is to verify the condition of the vehicle. That being said, each one is done by one of our factory-trained Lincoln technicians. Here’s a general breakdown of each aspect our technicians are inspecting:

Vehicle history: We start the inspection with the basics, including examining the VIN and the emissions sticker, where applicable. We'll then check the CARFAX® Vehicle History Report™. We’ll also see if the vehicle is up to date on its maintenance timeline.

Road test: At some point, we’ll want to see the vehicle in action. That’s why we'll take it for a road test during the inspection. During this time, we’re checking to see if:

If applicable, we’ll also check the condition of specific features, like cruise control, Remote Start System, and driver select/memory profiles.

Vehicle exterior/interior: Next, we'll take a look at the physical condition of the car. Starting on the exterior, we'll check for any visible body damage caused by flood, hail, and more. We'll inspect the doors, the roof, the grills, the windows/windshield, and the trunk.

As for the interior, we'll double-check everything from the airbags to the air conditioning system. Even smaller details, like the clock, the windshield wipers, and the power outlets, will be looked at.

Under the hood: We’ll now check out the mechanical condition of the vehicle. This is where we’ll test the fluid levels, the oil pressure, the battery, and the timing belt. This is an important part of the inspection process and has over 30 checkpoints.
